Invitation to Experience Dances and Films in the Form of A Party to Celebrate Art and Life features five new dance pieces (from the We R Human series) and two films. The dances cycled through two times during the evening interspersed with Bollywood music spun by DJ Aanshul. Whiting herself along with the company shot and edited iphone movies by the company. Stepping outside the theatrical box, Seattle choreographer Maureen Whiting experiments with presenting her latest dance, film, and photography works as an all night party with continuous performance cycles. Inspired by the looseness of Judson Church Happenings and the spontaneity of Flash Mobs, Whiting’s latest works unfolded amidst the an ongoing celebration in the newly opened Melrose Market Studio space on Capitol Hill. The event offers ample opportunities for the audience to be part of the performance and ask the question—who is the viewer and who is being viewed?
