Choreographer Dancer and Mathematician Maureen Whiting has investigated art performance practices and collaborations since forming the Maureen Whiting Company in 1997. Years of dance training improvisation and interdisciplinary collaborations with a deep knowledge of mathematics provides a context for her innovative practice. The Maureen Whiting Dance Company work is conceptual, visceral and personal reflecting colliding forces of subconsciously sourced visual poetry and rigorous mathematical thinking. Current collaborators include company members Ezra Dickinson, Valencia James, Meredith Webster, Brett Allen Conway, composers Motoko Honda and Michael Zapruder, and designer Danielle Blackwell. The Community Work of Maureen Whiting involves choreographing and teaching dance making in Oakland Public Schools.
